Hello,
The problem is you have no permission / rights to edit the registry.i think u ron a domainnetwork, and ur not a member of administrator group. so, the solution is contacting ur network administrator to enable/give u a permission and right to edit the registry key.
if u r in a workgroup network and there is no network administrator, try to login ur machine with administrator account

Mate, This might occur due to a virus infection. Check this registry key,HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\Policies\System\DisableRegistryTools = 1Changed the value 1 to 0.Either restart the system or Kill explorer.exe from the task manager and relauch it. Cheers,Harish

I have the same problem, I can not open the regestry edetor , MR Harrish suggested it must be a virus infection and, suggested opening the regedit to deal with it!
the problem is not being able to open the regedit in the first place !
I can open Gpedit.msc but, don't know if this can help, and how.
thanx

Hi all,I was trying to mention this,From a same machine in the LAN->open registry->Click on file->Connect to a network registry->type in the problem machine name or IP address. Check the registry key which I had already mentioned. As you might be aware in MS user should have admin rights from and to the machine which you are connecting too This link might help,http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virusinfo/virus.aspx?id=49744Cheers,Harish

If you can not run a .reg file:1. open GPedit.2.open User Configuration3.open Administrative Templates4. open SystemChange:Disable registry editing tools to not configured or disabled.Regedit should be useable on the next reboot.
